Najuma Thorpe
Business Leader. Adjunct Professor. Strategist.
Najuma Thorpe is a business leader, communications strategist, speaker, educator and entrepreneur who helps people and organizations turn complex ideas into clear direction, meaningful connection and action. She believes the most powerful leaders don’t become someone new—they have the courage to fully embrace who they’ve been all along.
For more than 25 years, Najuma has worked at the intersection of leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement, helping organizations navigate change, strengthen culture, build trust and move important work forward. Her experience spans corporate, nonprofit and government organizations, where she has advised executives, shaped strategy and helped leaders earn buy-in for some of their most important decisions.
But that’s only part of her story.
For much of her career, Najuma was known for one title: communications executive. Behind that title, however, she was also teaching, consulting, investing in real estate, building businesses and mentoring others. She didn’t become a multi-hyphenate overnight—she simply stopped editing herself down to the role people expected her to play.
Today, her work reflects the full range of who she is: a corporate strategist, businesswoman, professor and communicator who believes people do their best work when they understand the why, see themselves in the vision and trust the people leading the way. She believes our greatest impact comes when we stop shrinking ourselves into one title and start embracing the full breadth of our experience, perspective and purpose.
That belief shapes everything she does.
Throughout her career, Najuma has helped leaders communicate with clarity, navigate uncertainty and build trust with the people who matter most. She is known for translating complex challenges into practical strategies that people can understand, believe in and act on. Her philosophy is simple: communication is not just about what is said. It is about whether people feel informed, included and ready to move with you.
In every situation, she brings the same strengths: clarity, curiosity, candor and a deep respect for people.
Najuma holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in organizational communication from Bowie State University and an MBA concentrating in marketing from Strayer University.
Whether speaking to executives, teaching students, advising organizations or building businesses, Najuma’s message is consistent: the most fulfilling careers—and the most authentic leadership—aren’t built by becoming someone else. They’re built by fully embracing who you’ve been all along and having the courage to let the world see it.
